If you are stranded in the wilderness fighting for your survival, or trying to live in the wilderness long term, transportation is a must. You will only be able to travel 10 miles a day on foot, and that is over good ground with a light pack. But on the water, you can travel 30 miles a day, and you can transport supplies, a wounded person, and use a fraction of the energy it would take to walk 1/3 of the distance. A raft can make all the difference. Here is a video of two men making a raft with a few hand tools and some rope. The same principles could be applied with less tools available and done by one’s self with a little more work. Unfortunately, they don’t spend much time showing knot tying, but they also don’t lash the logs, they use a unique technique to tighten the rope that I think is much easier, more secure, and faster. Enjoy, and pay attention, you may need these skill to save your life or the life of someone with you if you are cut off from help in the wilderness.
