In a survival situation, especially when you have to survive for a long period of time without the ability to run down to the grocery store, you need to hunt for your own food. Many people consider themselves hunters and they feel that they would be perfectly fine in a survival situation.
Of course, you ask them how they hunt, they start talking about the different high-powered rifles they have and the scopes they use. Now, if a survival situation goes on long enough, you might not have access to ammunition. You might have a weapon that breaks or a scope the breaks. Anything could happen to it. While you might be a great hunter with a rifle, you also need to learn how to use other tools to hunt and survive.
For example, you will want to learn how to hunt with a bow and arrow. A compound bow is nice, but they also have the potential to break over time and they can be difficult to repair. Therefore, you will want to also learn how to shoot with a longbow. In fact, it might be a good idea to learn how to make a longbow and arrows as well. This way, will always have what you need at hand when it comes to hunting.
Some other types of weapons and tools you should learn to use for hunting include the atlatl, the spear, the sling, throwing stick, and any other hunting implement you might come across. By learning to hunt with multiple types of tools, you will have the peace of mind you need when you’re trying to actually survive in the wild.
