Obviously, this might not be at the top of the list for the majority of preppers, but if you are or have a woman in your family who is of childbearing age and likely to be or become pregnant during a time of survival, a basic birth kit is a great thing to have. Also, if you are simply interested in more “advanced” survival materials or items that might be very valuable for trade or simply being able to help others during a disaster or crisis, birth kit supplies are great for this.
Here is a list of vital birth kit supplies for a basic off-grid homebirth. A lot of these items might be elsewhere in your first aid supplies or prep stash, but a time might come when you will need to get essential birth supplies together in one place. This would also make a great DIY emergency birth kit for any expecting woman to carry in her car or have at home in case a baby arrives before you get to the hospital!
- hand sanitizer
- gloves
- head lamp
- cord clamp
- receiving blanket
- sanitary pads
- bulb syringe
- baby bottle and formula (in case mother is unable/unavailable to nurse)
- newborn diapers
- trash bags (for placenta)
- Shower curtain or thick plastic
- Clean blankets and towels
