The Walking Dead is one of the most popular television shows of the past several years, and seems to have struck a chord with just about everyone for one reason or another. If you are a survivalist, then you might have watched it with an eye toward how things might work in a real situation. Of course, we’re not talking about zombies, but any other SHTF situations that could happen. You might be surprised, but there are some things that you can learn from the show. No, you will not learn the right way to build a shelter or decontaminate water, but it can still prove useful.
One of the most important survival tips you can glean from the show is the importance of being a part of a good group. When you have a group, it is safer. You can each take part in the various activities that help to the survival of everyone. Even though you might need to have extra supplies and food, it is worth it for the extra protection. In addition, some of the people in the group may have skills they can teach to the others.
The show also makes it a point to show how important it is to be keenly aware of your surroundings. This is true for environmental hazards, as well as animals and other humans (and the dead in the case of the show). Always know what is happening around you and be prepared for things to get bad.
Some of the other lessons the show teaches include being responsible with food and water, trying to keep calm, and not always trusting those you meet until you can verify they are worthy of your trust. These are solid lessons everyone can incorporate into their own survival training.
