Learning Self-Defense for Survival

Self-defense is a huge element of survival, not just in a world after the SHTF, but in today’s very dangerous society. To make things clear up front, typical martial arts just aren’t going to do the trick when you are fighting for your life. Perhaps someone with 20 years of experience in a martial art could hold his or her own, but that’s just not the case with most people. There are a few fighting forms that can work, such as krav maga, though. Learn to fight on your feet and on the ground.

Essentially, you need to learn to be brutal. You might not like the idea of fighting – most people don’t. However, that doesn’t mean that you can simply let people take advantage of you and hurt you or your family. In a survival situation, the only thing being a pacifist will get you is good and dead in a hurry. By brutal, we mean, you need to learn to fight with eye gouges, ripping at the ears, biting, hitting the throat, breaking fingers, hitting the genitalia, and more.

Does this sound unpleasant? It doesn’t matter, because it is all about survival at this point. There is no such thing as fighting dirty when it comes to survival. The only goal is to live, not win a good sportsmanship award.

In addition to hand to hand combat, you should also learn how to utilize different melee weapons in combat. These include things such as knives and clubs. Train with these and learn how to access them quickly. In addition, you should learn how to fight against opponents who have these weapons.

Check your local area for classes and schools that teach real self-defense techniques and consider enrolling. Of course, you will want to make sure that you vet the school and the instructors before attending.
