Learning about survival and survival skills is quite beneficial. Reading about different methods of survival in books and online can provide you with a nice foundation from which you can begin, but you need to remember that it is only the foundation. You are responsible for taking the information you learn and then applying it to situations in the real world. It is time that you took your knowledge outside of the house and started to use it, so you know that you have the real skills it will take to survive. The following are three skills that you should begin practicing right now.
First, fire building. Learn several methods of building a fire using primitive methods, such as the bow and drill or flint and steel. The next time you want to start a fire to roast some marshmallows or hot dogs, do it by hand. It will take longer, and you might not be successful at first. However, you are building on the skills that you have. Keep learning different methods and keep practicing. Once you have the fire going, learn to cook on it properly.
Second, if you want to have things to cook on the fire when you are surviving, you need to know how to forage and hunt. These are skills that you can and should be practicing right now. Get a hunting license, and if you have never been before, go with someone who can show you the ropes. Learn how to butcher the animals properly, and try to hunt different types of animals and birds. This will give you experience that could come in handy when you are trying to hunt for survival.
These are just two of the survival skills that you need to practice. Always look for ways that you can put your knowledge to practical use.
