Some items are just cooler than others, and because of this we give them more attention. But when disaster strikes and you are digging into your supplies it won’t matter how cool an item is, all that will matter is if you enough. For this reason, you might want to spend a little less on stockpiling ammunition and fish antibiotics and consider spending a little more on these items.
- Toilet Paper: If you live in the country where you have access to a lot of leaves laying around you might not have the same needs as someone in an urban area, but this is not something you want to over look.
- Alternative Cooking Fuel: Whether your plan involves using wood, charcoal, or propane, you should have at least a 30 day supply of fuel on hand for cooking.
- Pet Food: Your pet could be beneficial to you in a crisis, but even if they aren’t much practical good, you don’t want to watch them starve or give them your food when supplies are hard to come by. Keep at least a 2 week supply on hand other than what you have opened and are feeding your pet now.
- Batteries: All the headlamps in the world won’t do you any good if you don’t have power for them.
- Soap: You might not care so much how you smell if the world as we know it has come to an end, but hygiene isn’t just about being presentable, it’s also about health and soap is an essential tool in staying healthy.
It’s not as exciting to shop for toilet paper as it is for a semi-automatic rifle, an EDC knife, or even freeze dried food. In reality, most situations will call for the items of this list more than the items that you want to show your friends or search for online.
